“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. ”― Archimedes

I was hoping to spend more time working on the website, fully connecting everything up. Filling up more of the PieFed instance(an open-source reddit clone) with more information.

And yet again I am visited by my new Owl friend Archimedes(thanks to my cousin Lauren for the wonderful name, sourced from 1963 animated film “The Sword in the Stone”).

And with this visit, and his being perched on what one not help to see resembling a lever- I am brought forth to this quote for the title of this post. It’s a quote I have used and found meaningful and inspiring over many years. Funny it should find it way back to me – not by my own sourcing, but by a relative I asked to help me name the mystical bird who keeps coming to my cottage in the woods.

My rational mind tell me rationalizations, weather patterns, chance circumstances and anything that seems to distract from what my no longer quiet voice of intuition tells me.

My intuition tells me it is time to – make this post, plant my feet, place down my lever here, and move the world. This website is the first step in that process of contributing to working to build a world and future we all would like to live in – as opposed to the future in which seems to be barrelling down upon us.

Forced on us by Men of Great Power and Small Minds. For they see only a world in which Control and Domination are the only modes of operating. They have obviously lost their way. Attempting to yoke the world and it’s people into submission using brute force, intimidation and whatever technology they can get their hands on to control and surveil us.

To force us into their view of the world. Filled with control, force, aggression, and blind obedience to their system.

And yet, we now have all the technology that we need, in order to build a better world. A better system for ourselves. Better systems. For I see the future as not one of central command, but of decentralized systems and communities. Operating and sharing freely, to better each other. To value creativity, collaboration and acceptance of differing ways of operating in the world.

And this website is the starting step towards doing my small part in bringing that into being. Many of you have possibly never heard of SolarPunk, Permaculture, Open Source technology, and many other terms I will be throwing around and writing about here going forward. Some of you will.

I am no expert in any of these fields. There are many people that know much more about this topics than I do and ever will. I hope we can find those people together and get them to share their skills and knowledge with us.

I am simply one man, with ideas that will not go away and keep driving me to express them and bring them into being. A man who cannot seem to stop writing, and yet cannot stand editing. Who sometimes says the wrong thing, and lots of time does not know where his writing or talking is going until it gets there.

Only a starting point and a vague sense of what I want to express.

That is this post. And will be all my other posts and writing going forward. It is how I write. Stream of consciousness. Catch the stream and hold on as long as I can. And then get up and walk away. It’s not my place to cut off and re orient and arrange my writing. It simply is what it is when it comes through.

Could I be more concise? More efficient with my words? Of course. But then how would you know it was truly me behind these characters on the page- instead of Ai chatbot or distilled and optimized written statement passed through one of the many now ubiquitous “Ai writing assistants”?

You couldn’t. At least now you know there is a real human here. Writing and expressing themselves in a way that I uniquely themselves.

This post was supposed to be a simple post using the quote above, a picture of Archimedes, a few screens shots of the Piefed instance, and an explanation about what Piefed and the fediverse is.

Obviously it turned into something quite different than that. Now my censor tells me to delete all this. You know, that part of ourselves that is critical and stops us from ever getting past surface level writing and talking- of playing it safe for Fear of judgement from the group. That I will be judged or seen as crazy, or silly, or whatever the multitude of thought-stopping phases our society uses to keep us small and in our respective consumer boxes.

But I am not a consumer. I am a creator. And as such. I will take my freedom to create as I choose. To create new worlds and ways of being that align with a life that I choose to live. That I feel is more human-centric. That allows for a meaningful and joyful life to be lived.

And I would like if you felt called, to help me. And I will help you to the best of my abilities as we well. Humans helping humans. Learning and teaching skills. And ways of being.

That’s all. The stream ran dry and I have to go to head to a MakerSpace to learn how to sew. Another skill to be learned. New people to be taught by.

That’s it. Have to run. Thanks for stopping by The Living Workshop and reading my writings. Feel free to share whatever and comment whatever you like. You made it to the end of this after all.
